Journeyperson Welder

British Columbia, B.C · $62.50/hr.

Locations: British Columbia
Base Rate:$62.50/hr. 
OT: 4 hours daily paid out at $93.75/hr. 
Schedule:14X14 - 12-hour days 
Night Shift Premium: $1.25/hr 
Accommodations: Shared Accommodations provided at no cost to the employee
Flights Paid: Yes, fly into the location from any major airport in Canada
Tools Provided: Yes, you will be working out of fully tooled service trucks
Travel Time: Paid up to 8 hours at each end of your set
Meal Allowance: $60 per day

Big Country Equipment is a BC-based heavy equipment service and repair company that serves resource-based customers across Canada. Big Country Equipment was formed in 2017. We have grown rapidly from a one-truck operation to over 100 employees and a fleet of more than 30 fully equipped service trucks, serving customers throughout Western Canada 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Journeyperson Welder to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on mining equipment, fabricating various mining and structural components, line boring, and maintaining a high standard of work quality. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively in a diverse environment, and excellent communication skills.

Main Job Duties: 

  • Perform maintenance and repair on mining equipment at our customers' shops and in the field.
  • Fabricate various mining and structural components as required.
  • Read and interpret blueprints for fabrication and repair work.
  • Maintain high-quality work and adhere to safety standards.

Qualifications: 

  • Journeyperson Welder certification.
  • Red Seal required.
  • Mining equipment repair experience required (Haul Trucks/Dozers/Shovels/Excavators).
  • Trained and experienced with Stick, MIG, and large wire-feed welders, Cooper-heat, Plasma cutter, Lance, overhead and/or mobile truck cranes, as well as other tools of the trade.
  • Mining industry experience is preferred. 
  • CWB tickets will be considered an asset.
  • Experience in line boring will be considered an asset.
  • Previous field experience required. Must have worked out of a service truck. 
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, enabling effective work in a diverse working environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

All successful candidates must: 

  • Be proficient in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Pass a Breath Alcohol Test.
  • Pass an 8-panel Urine Drug Test. (This includes Marijuana)
  • Not seeking work as a subcontractor or contractor.
